Networking
From the Little Miracles books By
Mel Kaufmann –
kaufmannmelvin@charter.net
(Six months ago Mel Kaufmann retired
to Walla Walla, Washington to be with
family for his remaining years. He has
decided to give away his body of work;
one business-bit at a time. He calls
each shared principle a Little Miracle.
“My days of earning are over and my days
of giving have begun.” Says Mel. I will
be including Mel’s “Little Miracles” in
the weekly news briefs, and/or the
newsletters as they are sent to the
Chamber office. Donna)
A teacher took a first grade student
into the hallway and admonished him for
talking. He exclaimed, “I was not
talking. I was networking.” I soon
discovered talking is not networking.
Usually it is socializing. Socializing
and networking are entirely different
types of communications.
Networking is a skill. Networking is an
elusive skill. Some are natural
networkers and then there are the rest
of us.
My mission for the rest of my live is to
reach as many people as possible who are
struggling to keep their heads above the
waves. This is my gift to the working
class. You have my permission to forward
the Monday Miracles. Let the Little
Miracles echo all across America and
beyond. This is the Golden Rule at its
best . This includes sharing them with
your office staff, members of your
chambers or organizations, your
customers and/or clients, and your
business friends. Let’s keep the Monday
Miracles moving; encourage those to whom
you share the networking wisdom to do
the same; and they the same, etc.
What is Networking?
Everyone believes they network but few
can define it. What you can’t define you
can’t control. You can’t enter your
financial orbit with your Links
(business relationships) unless you use
the same economic launching pad. I
found the definition of networking I use
in a book by John Naisbitt. The title of
the book is Megatrends . John discusses
ten mega-trends – ten mighty trends that
will transform business as we enter the
21st Century – and chapter eight is all
about networking. Naisbitt peeled away
the contours of networking with his
definition. He defined networking as,
“The exchange of ideas, information, and
resources.” It is that simple. This very
instant, put down this book and call or
e-mail one Little Miracle to a friend.
Now you are networking!
A shared idea is money in the
till!
