Compete & Succeed: Bothell Retailers Workshop – Thursday, Feb. 28
City of Bothell is launching a marketing series aimed at helping independent Bothell retailers and merchants to ensure their continued success as Downtown Bothell revitalization occurs in the upcoming years. The first workshop is on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and costs $35, which includes course materials valued at $20. Register with the Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce at
www.bothellchamber.com or 425.485.4353. The workshops are open to North
King County and Snohomish County merchants.
“When the Downtown Revitalization Plan is fully implemented, we want every retailer here today to be in business to enjoy it,” said City of Bothell Economic Development Manager Terrie Battuello . “Independent retailers have competitive advantages in the consumer world that can be leveraged. The City intends to assure our businesses are better positioned to use these advantages and to compete with nationally-branded companies attracted by the revitalization.”
Barbara Wold, an internationally-known authority on independent retailing, is featured in the series debut. She uses humor and dozens of easy-to-implement ideas to provide busy merchants with custom-tailored annual plans custom-tailored steps designed to boost marketing efforts, generate support teams and provide ongoing professional business guidance to prepare existing businesses to optimize the effects of revitalization.
The City contracted with the University of Washington Bothell Business Development Center (BDC) to facilitate activities that will tailor lessons into custom plans for individual businesses during the workshop following the lecture part of the program. The workshop also includes free one-on-one business counseling from the BDC facilitators in the months following the workshop to help retailers leverage their workshop investment to the maximum advantage. The Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce is also a partner to help launch this series.
The series will run several years, with one to two workshops sponsored by the City of Bothell each year. Each workshop will feature a nationally-recognized independent retailer consultant or speaker and will build on the prior workshops. Through City of Bothell support to the BDC, Center staff will provide free follow-up counseling to shop owners at their locations following the workshop to ensure retailers have the tools to leverage their workshop investment to the maximum advantage.
